Gareth Gates to star in Jack and the Beanstalk

Today, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre revealed the first casting announcement for the 2017/18 pantomime. Gareth Gates will star as Jack in a giant new production of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK.

Returning due to popular demand are Lisa Riley as the Fairy, Ian Adams will return as dame playing Dame Trott, Black Country favourite Doreen Tipton will appear and Adam C Booth plays the role of Jack’s brother Simple Simon.

Gareth Gates rose to stardom in 2002 as runner-up in the UK’s first Pop Idol. In a phenomenal career which followed he has sold more than 3.5 million records in the UK, released three albums and had four UK number one singles.

Alongside his pop career Gareth has been seen on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice and The Big Reunion 2014 for ITV. Gareth’s theatre career has seen him play the role of Marius in the 25th anniversary tour of Les Misérables for Sir Cameron Mackintosh, in Loserville at West Yorkshire Playhouse and the UK tours of Legally Blonde and Boogie Nights the Musical. He has regularly toured in the concert Mad About the Musicals and is currently starring in the second leg of the UK tour of Footloose. Last Saturday Gareth appeared as part of the line-up Boys Aloud, recreating the Girls Aloud hit Biology for BBC’s Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief.

Lisa Riley captured the hearts of Wolverhampton as the Slave Of The Ring in last year’s pantomime, Aladdin. Lisa is a regular panellist on ITV’s Loose Women and is known for playing Mandy Dingle in the ITV1 soap Emmerdale from 1995 to 2001. She more recently wowed viewers on the BBC1 series Strictly Come Dancing. Lisa also appeared in a Grand Theatre pantomime in the 2000 production of Dick Whittington as Fairy Bowbells.

Ian Adams returns to the role of dame, asserting himself as a family favourite as Widow Twankey in last year’s pantomime, Aladdin. Ian wrote and performed in a production of Dick Whittington that was the very first pantomime to be presented inside London Zoo. Recently, Ian formed StarDam productions – a company who specialise in creating stage versions of popular children’s stories.

Lazy Black Country internet sensation Doreen Tipton will appear as herself this year, it’s a lot of effort playing a different character. She has become a national treasure – at least regionally – in her native Black Country. Doreen’s original million hit YouTube viral success has now blossomed into a series of theatre tours, a full-length feature film featuring fellow Yam Yam and rock legend Robert Plant and Steve Bull, an autobiography (which somebody else had to write) her own BBC radio show, and even her own online comedy sketch channel called Doreen TV.

Adam C Booth who received great critical acclaim as Wishee Washee in last year’s production of Aladdin will play Jack’s brother Simple Simon. Adam is a regular on Keith Lemon’s Sketch Show. Adam’s other TV appearances include Keith Lemon’s Lemon La Vida Loca, Pearly Gates (BBC), Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. Adam’s roles in theatre include Pepper in the West End production of Mamma Mia! at the Prince Edward Theatre, Les Miserables, West Side Story, Boogie Nights and Footloose.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK opens at the Grand Theatre on Saturday 9 December 2017 and runs until Sunday 14 January 2018. Tickets are already on sale and can be booked in person, by phone on 01902 42 92 12 or online at grandtheatre.co.uk.

More celebrities confirmed to strut their stuff on Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief

Boys Allowed featuring Gareth Gates, Duncan James, Jon Lee, Ritchie Neville and Ben Ofoedu will perform the single Biology by one of the UK’s most successful female pop groups, Girls Aloud.

Gareth Gates says, “I’m so excited to being involved with Comic Relief again. In 2003 I had the honour of performing the official single Spirit In The Sky and they also put me in a bath of baked beans! This time I’m dressing up as a woman! It’s going to be a fantastic performance, I can’t wait to get those high heels on and raise loads of money for such a fantastic cause! You have to tune in!”

Gareth Gates Unveiled as Host For Fifth Shine A Light Awards

Gareth Gates, singer-songwriter and musical theatre star, has today 1st February 2017) been revealed as the host of the 2017 Shine a Light Awards that take place in London on 23 March 2017.

The national awards scheme, run by Pearson in partnership with The Communication Trust, celebrates innovative work and excellent practice in supporting children and young people’s speech, language and communication development.

Gareth Gates, who rose to fame on Pop Idol, has spoken publicly about living with a stutter and the impact on life chances.  In 2011 Gareth planned and filmed a documentary, ‘Stop my Stutter’, where he taught young people who had stammered since childhood how to use the McGuire Technique after qualifying as a speech coach and course instructor.

Pearson and The Communication Trust, a coalition of over 50 organisations dedicated to supporting children and young people’s speech, language and communication, are seeking to recognise the incredible contributions of teams, settings and individuals across England as well as the inspirational journeys of young people living with severe and complex speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

Gareth Gates says: “It is a complete honour to host these awards and I can’t wait to meet those involved in March. Too often people take speaking for granted but for many being able to communicate and converse is an everyday struggle. In the past I have found my stutter crippling, affecting my confidence greatly, but I have learnt ways to manage my difficulties with the support of others.

“The fantastic work of individuals and teams that help children and young people communicate can go unnoticed but what they achieve represents a lifeline to many. I am very much looking forward to hosting the Awards and know it will be a humbling experience.”

The Shine a Light Awards features a 28-strong judging panel including leading individuals in the speech, language and communication sector as well as previous Award winners from across England. Francesca Martinez – international comedian, writer and speaker who has mild cerebral palsy – has also joined the judging panel.

Francesca Martinez says: “Not everyone finds communicating easy, it can be a tough struggle for children, young people and adults alike. The pressure to be ‘normal’ can be immense, but what does normal mean? I have cerebral palsy, something I prefer to reference as ‘wobbly’ but that doesn’t stop me from performing whether that be acting, stand-up comedy or appearing on a panel show.

“With support, I attended a mainstream school and I have managed to achieve things beyond my wildest dreams. I am delighted to be joining a stellar judging panel for the 2017 Shine a Light Awards. It is so important to recognise the achievements of those with speech and language difficulties and the families, individuals, team and settings that support them. ”

The Shine a Light Awards features 10 categories including Primary and Secondary School of the Year, Special Educational Needs (SEN) School of the Year (a new category for 2017), Young Person of the Year and the Communication Champion Award.

Chris Hall, Director of Clinical Assessment at Pearson, says: “We are delighted that both Gareth Gates and Francesca Martinez are part of the 2017 Shine a Light Awards. Both Gareth and Francesca face their own hurdles when it comes to communication and represent inspirational role models of what can be achieved through determination, hard work and support.

“It is vital that we raise awareness of the amazing work that is taking place up and down the country.  With such dedication and high spirits, individuals, teams and settings are making a real difference to children and young people giving them the confidence and skills to achieve great things against the odds.”

Footloose the Musical returns in 2017

THE SMASH HIT PRODUCTION RETURNS IN 2017

LAUNCHING A NEW UK TOUR AT NEW WIMBLEDON THEATRE ON FRIDAY 21 APRIL 2017

WITH A STRICTLY LIMITED WEST END SEASON AT THE PEACOCK THEATRE

FROM TUESDAY 12 TO SATURDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2017

Following a smash-hit 2016 tour which saw over 160,000 people cut loose across the UK, Footloose: The Musical will burst back onto the stage in 2017 when an International Tour launches from New Wimbledon Theatre on Friday 21 April. The tour will include a strictly limited West End season at the Peacock Theatre, playing for three weeks from Tuesday 12 September 2017.  Full tour schedule below.

Based on the 1984 screen sensation starring Kevin Bacon, Footloose: The Musical tells the story of city boy Ren, who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town up on its feet. Featuring classic 80s hits including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear it for the Boy and the unforgettable title track, Footloose: The Musical is set to take the world by storm once again, bursting with youthful spirit, dazzling dance and electrifying music.

When the film was released in 1984, it became the highest-grossing February release in US film history.  The soundtrack album ended the year-long reign of Michael Jackson’s Thriller at number one and went on to top album charts all over the world, eventually selling in excess of 17 million copies.  Footloose was nominated for a Golden Globe, and both the title song and Let’s Hear It for the Boy received Academy Award nominations. Footloose: The Musical first opened on Broadway in 1998 where it ran for 709 performances, with a London production following in 2006.

Gareth Gates and Maureen Nolan will reprise their roles as Willard and Vi Moore.

Gareth Gates rose to fame through the inaugural series of Pop Idol in 2001, going on to sell over 5 million records worldwide and have hits across the globe. His version of Unchained Melody sold over a million copies in the UK and is the 3rd best-selling single of the Noughties. Gareth is also the youngest ever-male solo artist to debut at number 1.  More recently Gareth has enjoyed a successful career on stage, with credits including Les Misérables, Legally Blonde and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. In 2014 Gareth appeared in the final series of Dancing on Ice, and joined boyband 5th Story as part of ITV’s second series of The Big Reunion, touring arenas with bands including Blue and Five.

Gareth will not appear in Wimbledon and Chester.

Maureen Nolan has been singing with her sisters since she was nine years old, when they became one of Europe’s first girl bands, The Nolans. Best known for their smash hit single I’m in the Mood for Dancing, The Nolans enjoyed phenomenal record sales worldwide, and worked with some of the world’s most respected artists including Frank Sinatra. On stage, Maureen has played Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers in the West End and on tour to critical acclaim. She was the fourth Nolan sister to play the role, earning them entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Other credits include Sadie in Girl’s Behind, Jill in Mum’s the Word and Sarah in The Naked Truth.

Further casting is to be announced.

Footloose: The Musical has music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and is adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. It is based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford. It is directed by Racky Plews (American Idiot, West End) with choreography by Matthew Cole, design by Sara Perks and musical supervision by Mark Crossland. It is produced by David Hutchinson and Phillip Rowntree for Selladoor Productions, Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, Jason Haigh-Ellery and Stephen McGill Productions. It is presented by arrangement with R&H Theatricals Europe.

Cuppanut shortlisted for 2 Top Food Awards!

Cuppanut Coconut Infusion has been shortlisted in the Quality Food Awards ‘tea’ category with the awards ceremony and reception at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 10th November 2016.

This amazing achievement is barely a year since it was not much more than an idea in its founder’s head (Gareth Gates) and just 4 months into its production in April.

Cuppanut Coconut Ginger & Turmeric Infusion has been shortlisted in the Good Choice! Quality Food Awards ‘Soft Drinks – Alternative Hot Beverages’ category. These awards take place on Friday 21st October at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square, London.

These Coconut infusions are shortlisted alongside tea from well-known supermarkets such as Marks and Spencer and Lidl.

Gareth himself has spearheaded the success of this brand both in the boardroom and in the media – appearing at Food fairs and TV shows equally – such is the belief behind his product.

With more flavours due to hit the market soon, 2016 is sure to be a successful one, both for Cuppanut and for Gareth.

Message from Gareth about Leicester gig

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to personally let you all know that I have to cancel the acoustic gig in Leicester next Saturday.  I am of course gutted. I am back and 80% there with my voice – Footloose is actually helping it get stronger! But I am a few weeks away still from being able to perform a whole acoustic set which is of course challenging for me still.  I had hoped to make it but we have run out of time.
My management is currently speaking to the venue to see if we can put in a new date in the Autumn after Footloose finishes..
Please try and catch me in one of the theatres if you can – I am doing all of the rest of them! For details: www.footloose-musical.com or in Belfast for Panto this Christmas!

Love Gareth

Panto Idol May McFettridge and Pop Idol Gareth Gates to star in this year’s spectacular pantomime, Cinderella!

Grand Opera House, Belfast
Sat 3 Dec 2016 – Sun 15 Jan 2017

The Grand Opera House has announced that Gareth Gates will star as Prince Charming in this year’s must-see pantomime Cinderella, alongside Northern Ireland’s Queen of Comedy May McFettridge in the role of the Fairy Godmother.

Gareth panto

He has regularly toured in the concert Mad About the Musicals and is currently starring in the UK tour of Footloose.

Gareth will star alongside Northern Ireland’s own May McFettridge in her 27th consecutive pantomime at the Grand Opera House. Having cooked up a storm as Nurse May in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs last year, May has swapped her wooden spoon for a magic wand capable of conjuring up a spectacular journey to the Prince’s ball, with stunning special effects and beautiful costumes.

Executive Producer and Director of Cinderella Jonathan Kiley said: “Following on from last year’s smash hit Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs I’m delighted that May and Gareth will lead the sensational cast of this year’s pantomime. With Gareth’s powerhouse vocals and May’s unique comic talents it’s going to be an unmissable show the entire family will enjoy”.

Ross Hickey, Head of Programming at the Grand Opera House said: “The Grand Opera House pantomime is such a popular event with families all over Northern Ireland, and we’re delighted to have Gareth join May for the greatest pantomime of them all!”

With over 75,000 theatregoers attending pantomime at the Grand Opera House each festive season early booking is advised for the panto packed full of the traditional ingredients audiences expect, featuring laugh out loud comedy, fabulous song and dance and plenty of boos and hisses. Join Cinders as she goes from rags to riches, outwits her very ugly sisters and meets her dashing Prince Charming.
